We are approached by many clients who aren’t really sure where to start when it comes to planning their office refurbishment and so, we have come up with some things that you will need to consider before you get started.
It’s important to put together a plan – if you need to speak to anyone in our expert team about this make sure you get in touch with us on 01344 303504 or email us. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Ask the BIG questions
We know the benefits of updating your office space, and if you are thinking of undertaking such a project, so do you. Attracting the best staff and improving your team’s productivity levels are just part of it, you probably want to impress existing and prospective clients as well.
So make sure you know WHY you are changing your office. You need to have a clear idea in mind as to WHAT you want to achieve and, of course you need to be sure of WHERE you are locating your office.
Budgeting and Quotes
While the big questions are important you’ll also need to be aware of the detail involved with your project. If you already have your budget set it is easier to instruct a firm, however, we come across a large number of businesses who don’t have a point of reference and therefore have no idea what things cost and what they can afford.
In this instance we ensure that our quotes are heavily detailed and itemised to maintain transparency – this should be common practice but on occasion firms won’t offer this and it will need to be requested.
Your Space Requirements
The workforce is changing and so must employers. Most people can now do their jobs from anywhere with an internet connection and this can be a major factor in your refurbishment. Make sure you research how your office space is used by your staff. How much time is spent at desks vs communal areas or meeting rooms? How often are break rooms being used? Do you have enough storage space?
Agile and adaptable working spaces are perfect for the fluid workforce and leave you with room to expand should you need to. Hot desks and communal breakout areas also help keep your space functional.
Stay on Brand
Your brand is your key identity and so your workspace should reflect that. It’s not just about your logo, your brand is about colour palettes, environment, atmosphere and core values. Make sure your workspace is inline with all your brand values and your clients, employees and visitors will be impressed. If you have a marketing department, make sure that you involve them in the process as they will be most familiar with your brand guidelines.
If you are updating your office space now might be a good time to think about upgrading or updating the technology you use in your day to day operations. Rather than bulky desktops or laptops why not switch to cloud computing technologies, these small machines will mean that you create a more minimalist feel to your workspace.
You can also look to go green. There are few things messier looking than desks and offices strewn with paper. Either start a paperless culture or ensure there are plenty of recycle bins throughout. This will show your clients and visitors that you are a forward thinking organisation.
Health and Safety
During your office fit out you will need to keep your business going while ensuring that your staff aren’t put in harm’s way. For this reason it is important to only engage certified contractors who will know exactly what measure to put in place to ensure that your office fit out is completed in the safest and most efficient way possible.
